JERUDONG – His Royal Highness Prince Haji Al-Muhtadee Billah ibni His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah, the Crown Prince and Senior Minister at the Prime Minister's Office attended the Opening Ceremony of the 53rd SEAMEO CounCIl Conference, held at Indera Samudra Grand Hall, The Empire Brunei. The Conference is scheduled to take place for three days, from July 1 to July 3, 2025, organized by the Ministry of Education, Brunei Darussalam. The theme for this year's conference is 'Greening Education for a Sustainable Southeast Asia: Empowering Change through Collective Action.

His Royal Highness was greeted upon arrival by Yang Berhormat Datin Seri Setia Dr. Hajah Romaizah binti Haji Md Salleh, Minister of Education, Brunei Darussalam, accompanied by His Excellency Juan Edgardo Sonny Angara, Secretary of Education, Republic of the Philippines, who serves as the President of the SEAMEO Council.

The opening ceremony began with the recitation of Surah Al-Fatihah and Doa Selamat, led by Yang Berhormat Pehin Orang Kaya Paduka Seri Utama Dato Paduka Seri Setia Haji Awang Salim bin Haji Besar, Chief Syar'ie Judge. The ceremony continued with a welcoming address from Yang Berhormat Datin Seri Setia Dr. Hajah Romaizah binti Haji Md Salleh, Minister of Education, Brunei Darussalam.

His Royal Highness then delivered a royal sabda and officially inaugurated the 53rd SEAMEO Council Conference. Following this, His Royal Highness also launched the Green Education Plan of the Ministry of Education, Brunei Darussalam.

Additionally, the ceremony included a welcoming address from His Excellency Juan Edgardo Sonny Angara, Secretary of Education, Republic of the Philippines, in his capacity as President of the SEAMEO Council. He shared on SEAMEO’s significant achievements and milestones attained throughout its 60 years of establishment.

To conclude the ceremony, His Royal Highness signed the Commemorative Parchment of the Green Education Plan and granted an audience to the Ministers and representatives from the 11 Member Countries, as well as the Director of the SEAMEO Secretariat. His Royal Highness then proceeded for a group photo session with the Ministers of Education, SEAMEO representatives, and the Director of the SEAMEO Secretariat.

This conference brings together delegations from 11 countries, comprising Ministers of Education, Associate Members, Affiliate Members, senior officials in the field of education, representatives from international organizations, and SEAMEO's strategic partners.
